Description of CLIB

CLIB, the Cluster Industrial Biotechnology, is an internationally active open innovation cluster of large companies, SMEs, investors, academic institutes, and other stakeholders active in biotechnology and the circular bioeconomy. CLIB is set up as non-profit association and comprises over 120 organisations, with a core in Germany and around 25% international members.

CLIB’s mission is to provide added value to all members and stakeholders through work in six strategic pillars based on industrial biotechnology. The members of the cluster work together across disciplines, sectors, regions and nations to create sustainable products and processes.

CLIB is active in a variety of projects at the state, national and European levels to develop activities within the strategic pillars, expand the network and create innovation opportunities for its members.

What is your task in the project LIGNOFUN?

In LIGNOFUN, CLIB takes on the role of communication and dissemination of the projects ambitions and achievements. As work package leader, we are additionally actively engaging stakeholders along the lignin value chain, to identify needs at an early stage, discuss LIGNOFUN’s approaches, and channel this feedback back into the project. To this end, CLIB brings not only years of experience as a networker and bridge builder to the project, but also funded knowledge in the valorization of (biogenic) sides steams and the challenges of transformation processes towards the bioeconomy and circular economy.

Role, Relevance & Interfaces in the Project

Established marked structures and fossil-based value chains are often optimized over decades and very resilient against change. Transforming these structures requires stakeholders involved to take risks, create secure framework conditions, and clearly communicate the advantages of new technologies and products. CLIB will focus specifically on communication within LIGNOFUN and will communicate the advantages of the processes, products and solutions developed in the project in a way that is understandable to everyone. In doing so, CLIB will also act as a multiplier and networker and will contribute its extensive network of stakeholders from academia, industry, SMEs, start-ups, and other experts from the biotech and chemical industries.
